I'm relatively new to the higher end of audio/video products, but I
just jumped in with both feet... I bought a Sony KDS-R50XBR1 XSRD rear
projection TV and a Yamaha RX-V2600 receiver. While I am quite happy
with the sound, HDMI switching, and performance of my setup, I have a
problem that I can't seem to figure out. I can't get the OSD on the
receiver to work... I have a Comcast dual tuner HD-DVR hooked up via
component inputs, and I have 3 separate outputs to my tv, S-Video,
Component Video, and HDMI. I have tried setting the cable box to 480i
output as I understand that the OSD will only overlay at 480, that
didn't work. I have tried to get the display to work via component and
S-Video with no other input, still no OSD. I can't get to my advanced
settings if I can't see the OSD, and I don't understand enough about
how the receiver setup works to know why I can't get it to display.
Another (minor) issue may be that the remote that I have a slightly
different than the one showin in the manual for the receiver in that
when I am set to AMP on the remote, where the GUI Top button should be
is labeled Level, and there is an On Screen label above the Display
button. Any help that anyone can offer to me to figure this out would
bre greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Don't know about your problem specifically, except to say that Yamaha
customer service / support may be able to help, but I did have an issue
recently with a higher-end Pioneer where the customer SWORE to me that he
had been using the component outs to access onscreen menus etc, and that the
onscreen no longer worked via the component output. A fair amount of
troubleshooting and consultation with Pioneer revealed that the OSD was
never designed to be available on the component outputs. The customer was
mistaken and wasted a bunch of my time for nothing.

That said, I would expect the Yamaha to make the OSD available to the higher
res outputs, but it is what it is. I expect you've consulted the owners
manual, but they can be really ambiguous sometimes.

Mark,

Thanks for writing back to me about that. I have been all over the
manual, as well as online with Yamaha support, who have been pretty
good. As it turns out, somehow, Yamaha shipped my unit with the wrong
remote (RAV357). While it looks almost identical, and works, the button
for the OSD is not where it should be, and is using the wrong code. All
this time it has not been me, but rather the equipment, that has
prevented the OSD from working. They shipped me out the correct remote
(RAV358) yesterday, and I ought to have it by Friday/Monday. Hopefully
that will correct my problem.

Glad that seems to have worked out for you.
